Central Provincial Tourism Department & Regional Economic Development Institute
Several tourism promotion programs were implemented with the participation of both the public and private sectors. As part of the International Tourism Day celebrations, a significant project was launched to promote tourist attractions in the Central Province, particularly in Sigiriya, the Knuckles Region, and Ududumbara.
The event, held on September 27, 2023, at the Getambe Dunhinda Hotel in Kandy, was presided over by Governor Lalith U. Gamage. During this occasion, licenses and certificates were awarded to trained tourist guides, safari drivers, mountaineers, and tourism service providers.
- Training Sessions:
- 14-day program for tourist guides
- 5-day program for safari drivers
- 5-day program for tourism service providers
- 5-day program for mountaineers
A total of 350 participants took part in these training sessions, conducted by a resource panel of 25 experts, including Professor Aslam from Sabaragamuwa University. This initiative was supported by funding from the European Union.
